On Thursday, November 19th, 2020, 914INC. virtually held the 10th Annual 2020 Women in Business Awards in conjunction with the Magazine’s Q4 issue.

Sharing the commitment to expand a pipeline of students of color to pursue teaching professions, White Plains-based Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers (TSTT) , one the nation’s leading teacher diversity mentoring programs, and Dominican College in Orangeburg, which has an outstanding Teacher Education Program, yesterday announced a partnership to achieve that goal.

Any parent can tell you that there are no instruction manuals when it comes to children. Each child is born with a unique set of personalities, skills, strengths and challenges. The average parent will raise 2-3 children. The average teacher in New York state has 26.2 students in a classroom. The most effective teachers are able to inspire and engage a diverse array of needs and abilities, often simultaneously. It takes years of training to do this effectively, but students enrolled in the Today’s Students, Tomorrow’s Teachers (TSTT) will have a leg up when it comes to being successful in the classroom – before they even take their first college course.

Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers (TSTT) is a program that invests time and money in guiding high school students from disadvantaged communities toward a potential career as an educator. The TSTT program includes mentoring and training for neophytes, as well as scholarships covering up to 50 percent of the tuition to study at a participating university.

The Annual Recognition Brunch honored the greater Hudson Valley Region and the legacy of Lois Bronz. On Thursday, May 24, 2018, over 180 distinguished guests including local, county, state and federal officials, prominent educators, supporters and current and future teachers joined in the Celebration of White Plains based Today's Students Tomorrow's Teachers ™(TSTT) Annual Recognition Brunch. The event took place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Tarrytown, 455 South Broadway, NY 10591.

The Mid-Hudson Valley Region’s Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers (TSTT) Program honored 14 graduating seniors, program mentors, and participating school districts at its 3rd annual recognition ceremony last week, including Monticello High School students Robert Bonnaci, Michelle Bryant, Zanaya Cooper and Steven Stanford.

More than 20 years ago, the lack of diversity in the teaching work force prompted me to start Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers (TSTT). Our mission is to recruit culturally diverse and economically challenged students in both high school and college and train them to become effective teachers and committed leaders who strengthen schools and communities. Today, nearly 5,000 teachers are volunteering their time to mentor and train over 800 of our students — half of whom are on full scholarships — in four states: New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Virginia.

TSTT Alumni Teachers appeared on MSNBC Education Nation Teacher Town Hall Part 2. Brian Williams from NBC News hosted the Summit at the New York Public Library. Philanthropist, Patricia Lanza of the Lanza Family Foundation and Dr. Bettye H. Perkins, Founder and CEO of Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers (TSTT) joined hands to cut the ceremonial ribbon and officially open the Lanza TSTT Institute for 50 students in the Worcester Public School District. North High School’s Principal Matthew Morse and selected students in the 8 year career development program named the Lanza TSTT Institute at North High School were greeted by Superintendent Dr. Melinda Boone, School Committee Member Dianna Biancheria, and community leaders including Rev. Will Bard, Founder and President of the New England Dream Center. The Lanza Family Foundation has been very supportive of TSTT’s career development program in Yonkers, NY and pledged a major contribution of $600,000 over the next four years to help students in Worcester, MA realize their dreams of going to college and returning as effective teachers in their community.

TSTT’s male students attending the Leadership Academy for Young Men in Rochester City on February 16, 2012, received a major investment by JPMorgan Chase’s Mr. E. Malcolm Wolcott, President and Debra Gentile, Vice President of Upstate New York and Dennis McDermott of JP Morgan Chase Foundation in New York City. A check for $170,000 was presented to Dr. Bettye H. Perkins, Founder and CEO of Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers (TSTT). The bank has been a major contributor to the TSTT program which has successfully replicated this initiative at the Eagle Academy for Young Men in the Bronx, New York City as well as in upstate New York. This JPMorgan Chase Foundation has helped to make the TSTT Male Teacher of Color Initiative possible for students across New York City.
