Admission to TSTT

Admission into the TSTT program is very competitive and selective, but highly personal. Self-assessment and discipline are vital in the decision to pursue a teaching career. Selection criteria includes:

  • A grade point average of 80
  • Good attendance records
  • Leadership potential
  • Recommendations by teachers, administrators, and guidance counselors
  • Ethnicity
  • And a writing sample of why one wants to be a TSTT participant.

Once accepted into the TSTT program, students must:

  • Maintain a "B" average through their senior year in high school
  • Volunteer as tutors 2 hours a week during the school year and 20 hours a week during the summer.

They also must commit to teaching in a TSTT participating school district for one year upon graduation from college. Regular attendance, and active involvement in regional activities is also a requirement. Students receive tutor training, SAT preparation, teacher mentorship, college visits, college survival workshops, and career counseling. The student retention rate in the TSTT program is over 90%.

Admission into the TSTT program is highly selective. The application is an
opportunity to emphasize your strengths, unique qualities and desire to
become a teacher to the TSTT admissions board. We give special attention
and care to each application, and appreciate your interest in joining the
TSTT community!
